Wonderful answer to a too small doorway
By TheJen
I just got this box spring today. I was going to wait for my man to come home to help me but I decided to give it a go at assembling it myself. It was very easy. So easy and quick that I have time to come downstairs and write a review and mock all the complaints for this product.I've read reviews saying they didn't get instructions included and really you don't need them. I constructed more complex Lincoln Log structures when I was 6 and had a fever. I just paid attention to where the groves were for where the cross slats would have to fit. I realized very quickly that I needed to turn the center board upside down from how I had it because there needed to be space for those said cross planks to fit.Yeah, the wood is rough. I don't know what posh, complaint-filled lifestyle people are used to, but this wood is never meant to be seen. This product comes with a cover included. The short amount of time you will be spending looking at it or touching it is very minimal. Maybe even less if you can get over yourself and just put the frame together. "Oh god! I got a splitter!" Yes, you are the reason we have to put warning labels all over everything. It's bed frame that goes over your mattress. You will have 12" of your high-end Beauty Rest between you and that nasty, mean, bad old wood. (And is it spruce? Is it pine??? Again, who cares?) I'm pretty sure you won't have restless nights, tossing your Princess and the Pea butt around, uncomfortable because you can

A competent wood foundation
By James Allman
I needed a foundation for an air bed I was putting together, and this foundation definitely fit the bill. The main frame of the foundation fit together easily with carriage bolts, while the slats (some 11 of them) had to be screwed in with wood screws - not difficult if you have an electric drill. While the assembly took longer than 5 minutes, it wasn't bad - it definitely took less than an hour. The case was very nice; from the outside, you can't tell that it's not a box spring foundation. Buyers should be aware that this foundation is relatively open, with roughly 4 inch gaps between 2 inch slats. This is no problem for light mattresses (air or spring), but heavier mattresses (foam or water) might distort on this foundation. People using those heavier mattresses may want to spend more money for a foundation with more slats.

Perfect solution for me!
By Terry
I had recently purchased a king size memory foam mattress to replace my worn-out coil mattress. I put it on my old box springs, but noticed that there seemed to be a ridge in the middle that telegraphed up through the mattress. Thus, I was delighted to have the opportunity to try this Instant Foundation. This product comes unassembled in a large box. It is carefully packed and the parts are all wrapped together inside the box so when you open it, the lumber doesn't all spill out. It consists of 6 braces (for king size) - the 4 outer sides and 2 center braces, ten slats, a foundation cover, and the bolts, washers, wing nuts and screws necessary for assembly. There is also one page of assembly instructions that includes color photos. The beauty of assembling my own mattress foundation, for me, was that I didn't need a truck to pick up an already assembled foundation and I could assemble it upstairs so I didn't need to try and carry the bulky item up stairs and around corners. I could see it being a real boon for someone living in an apartment on an upper level, too. This foundation is different from my old box springs in that it is one piece and there are no springs. My old foundation was 2 twin sized box springs, and the edges that met in the middle caused the ridge I could feel through the mattress. This foundation is made entirely of wood. The wood has knots and some imperfections, but it is sturdy and is covered afterward anyway. It is neatly milled, all the pieces fit together perfectly, the screw holes were pre-drilled, and all of the parts were there. You will need a Phillips head screwdriver or a drill with a Phillips drill bit to complete assembly. The instructions show assembling it on the floor, but I assembled mine directly atop my bed frame. The instructions don't have a lot of detail but if you go to the company website listed on the instruction page, there is also a video. Take your time looking at the supplied pieces and it's pretty easy to figure out. The frame and center braces bolt together first. Then, you place the 10 slats in the notches on the side braces and screw each slat down. There are 4 screws per slat for king size (40 all together) so it will be easier to use a drill. I just used a regular screwdriver, though, and had no problems. When it is all assembled, you put the supplied cover over the top of the foundation. It extends past the bottom and there is a drawstring to pull the bottom of the cover tight under the foundation. The corners of the foundation are rounded off so it's fairly easy to get the cover on.The cover is very, very nice. The sides are a heavy, high-quality, quilted ivory and gold color fabric and the top is a gray, double thickness fabric. It is sewn extremely well and fits snugly and perfectly. Note: there is no dust cover underneath - it is open. I prefer this because I have cats who always end up tearing a hole in the dust cover anyway so this saves them the trouble. The height of the foundation is 8 inches.I am a woman and I was able to assemble this by myself in about 35 minutes, once I brought all of the pieces upstairs. Since I assembled it on top of my bed frame, all I had to do was put my mattress back on once I was done.My memory foam mattress feels fantastic on this foundation!!! No ridge in the center, even support under every bit of the mattress and no creaking. I am completely delighted!
